I wonder how would the sound compare to my CA 540A Mk2 ?

Awsome amplifier. Superb sound, brilliant looks and it'll last a lifetime. Launched in 1978 and ran until 1979 when it was replaced by a model with a flouroscan meter. However - there is a better one. Look out for the SA-9800. 100watts/channel. Whether it beats your CA, I cannot say - however it will be a hell of alot louder!

Interesting, thanks! I'm always get really tempted by this type of kit.... hmm.

I've seen threads on this sit where people talk about servicing amplifiers. What wears out on an amp? Surely it'll either work or it won't?

Oooo no. Capacitors bleed, transformers get breaks in the coil, connections loosen and tarnish. My old amp is rubbish now. Or maybe it always was........

I see... so I guess quality of original components and standards of manufacture play a huge part then.... I'd imagine the Japanese stuff scores fairly high on the manufacturing side at least......
