Hey

I am going to get a new TV but not sure what to be looking for, just want a basic TV and not interested in Iplayer as I have a PS3 and 370, and also not worried about USB video as have again a PS3 and that streams great.

I want a TV thats amazing for SD as well as HD, and love Action and horror, and my current TV is not the best at motion in SD.

So if I like horrors and action, I guess blacks need to be black, also my room can get quite light, so Plasma is ok, but cant be super reflective like the PK590.

Do I need to be looking at the Hz, is higher the better. also contrast ect?

Thanks so much... Max budget 800.00 at a push 1000.00 for a 50"

If you look at the pic in MY SYSTEM thread its in an alcove in the corner.

I can sit in front, but mainly about 15 degrees to the side, but my bracket is a swivel on that I cant tilt and push in and out.

Viewing distance is about 3 meter to 3 and a half.

I was in the Sony Centre the other day as I am too looking for a new TV. I am mainly interested in SD, blu ray and PS3 pictures and was blown away by the SONY HX703. I think that is the Cinematic version. The picture using blu ray and SKY HD was amazing. So much better than my SONY 40W4000. It was on sale for £899 for the 40", seems like a bargain to me.

This season I haven't yet found an LCD I absolutely have no issues with. It seems they are either great with motion or great with colour. The sony LCD are as close as i've seen to a good middle ground. In saying that, we have run a number of different resolution signals into the sonys at work and they don't appear to like anything other than a full HD signal.

I would look at the Panasonic plasmas for what your after. The V20 would be a good fit. I'm a big fan of Samsung and prefer their colour but they just can't back it up with good motion.

Hope this helps

Feel free to throw any questions at me, I look at TVs 6 days a week at work and i've built a pretty detailed perspective on all the models we deal with.

id check out the panasonic 46g20 plasma, great blacks, not too bad with reflections, i think you may need to up the budget a touch though..

for an lcd id be looking at the samsung 46c750, £999 ,very good blacks for a ccfl lit lcd, and its also a full 3d set, you have to buy the glasses though, you could get the 3d update for your ps3 and your good to go for 3d movies and games, im not sure if your avr will allow 3d pass through though?..
