i've heard the speakers with Arcam A19 and it seems pretty good. But it has only 50 watts. Are a NAD 356 or Denon 1510 better? Looking for a amp with sweets highs.
The Arcam is fine if you do normal listening levels. The speakers do drop to 3.0 Ohms which could make them difficult to drive in certain circumstances. I got my Yamaha RX-A2020 in protect while watching a movie (on quite a cinematic volume I should add), probably due to the subsonic power of the scene, but this shouldn't happen with normal music at normal levels.
I would probably go for the NAD since I think it is very capable of driving difficult loads (NAD Powerdrive) and I think it sounds very good with B&W.
The Denon has tone controls so you can set your highs to your preference. As for the Marantz PM8005, it is a different amp than the Denon PMA-1510AE, but not less well made or lacking guts. I'd personally go for the more powerfull Denon due to the agile PSU and circuitry. For build quality, warranty and maintaining resale value, I'd go for the Marantz.
I'am now looking at dealers who has the b&w 683S2 and the amp which are on my shortlist.
1. Arcam A19
2. Denon 1520
3. Marantz pm 8005
4 MF M3si
For me; it seems all nice. Now i must see which is the best match with my speakers and my personal taste (= a warmer sound without bright highes and forgiving for rock)
