What if I threw a Naim Nait XS amp into the mix?

Now I've got my streaming system to a very satisfying level, I'm wondering about selling my Naim CD5i as it's not going to get much use. But this got me thinking about selling the Nait 5i amp as well as I'd probably get about £800 for the pair.

I could put this money towards a Naim Nait XS amp.

Any views on this?

thanks

Be careful you don't undersell the Naim kit.

I recently got £550 (+ £25 postage) for my old CD5i and £560 (+ £25 postage) for the Nait 5i. Even after PayPal and Ebay fees I still cleared just a little over £500 for each.

It's a strong brand and recent Naim price rises have made more people look at used Naim gear. With brand-new prices for the CD5i and Nait 5i being £975 and £850 respectively, you shouldn't be giving this stuff away :)

I also sold my Naim NAT05 tuner for £450 last week, so I am finally 'Naimless' and have lots more room under the stairs again.

Wow! My figures were largely finger-in-the air.

If I could get those sorts of figures then it's not a huge stretch for the XS.

Biggest problem is I can only find one Naim remote so would have to think about selling the pair together.

So how's a former Naimee finding the Marantz M-CR603 then ?

It's a great little system. Not a Naim - obviously - but still very, very good. Compact, looks great, no clutter and sounds a lot better than I needed it to (or expected it to).

When i auditioned the naim xs against the Uniti and 5i amp there was no contest for me in relation to sound quality. I would recommend it thouroughly. Im also looking at getting a sonos sytem for interenet radio and spotify

Roger,

Not too sure how relevant this is to you but I recently received a letter from the dealer I bought my XS from in 2008. In it they stated there is an offer on from Naim to "trade in" your XS against the pre power combo's. Anyway (having already got rid of mine) I was gobsmacked that for a 2008 model they were offering the FULL RRP AT THE TIME BACK. So a trade in value of £1200 ish regardless of what was actually paid. I bought mine end of line for £890 ish, so I actually would have MADE money on it.

Sorry long story short but there may be a glut of reasonably newish trade in XS's available in the near future.................

I bought mine from a hifi retailer in Cheshire that starts with Ac (shouldnt be too hard to work out).

PS yes its worth it

Thanks Blue, I'll keep that in mind.

However, I'm going to buy what I consider best, I've no interest in saving money on something that's not what I really want. I spent way more than intended on my present kit but I took my time and it's served me well for 6 years.

Actually I won't buy either if they're not a significant improvement over what I have already. I've read on the Naim forum that quite a few people prefer the sound of the UnitiQute to the XS... we shall see!

Audio-T were offering similar trade-in prices two years back.

Ah OK cheers Stumpy.

I've got 3 hours 'till the demo and am getting very excited. A chap on the Naim forum preferred the UnitiQute to the XS and has just bought some £2400 Dynaudio Contour speakers to go with it! and will be adding a Nap 200.

I have to say I'm expecting to prefer the XS. After all, the amplification in the Qute is based on what I have already.

I'm going to keep an open mind those and decide with my ears.

I'll report back later tonight once the nippers have been put to bed!

I ordered and XS 2 weeks ago and was told by my dealer that there is a delay due to a facia shortage! not sure if anyone else has experienced similar delays with XS/Naim product deliveries. Having said that looking forward to receving the amp next week. Given by the delivery lead times not sure if you are going to see such a glut in the market?

Well I hope you get yours soon Sonos and I look forward to reading all about it.

I've decided to stick with what I've got for now. I was expecting my system to sound compromised after auditioning the XS (and Qute) but I still love it, just the way it is!

Although, I may try a Sonos Z90 and see how that compares to streaming via the Apple TV...
