What HiFi reviewers! Please tell me the best regardless of price...

Hello there. I am in the market for a 32" to 40" set and I would really like to know how the main sets available at this price compare, performance wise and absolutely regardless of price. My rough shortlist includes Pioneer's KRL-32V and KRL-37V sets, Philips' 32PFL9603D, 32PFL5403D and 37PFL9603 sets, Sony's KDL-40W4500, etc. Please could the reviewers maybe put these tvs in order of, er, greatness, and tell me how good they are with no regard to how much they cost.

If you can go to a 42" get a pioneer plasma no compition

I just can't go to 42". 40" is really pushing it - really I should have a 32" or at most (considering space) 37". Also I will mainly be using the set for high-def content such as Sky HD (I can't wait to watch stuff on FX-HD and Fringe on Sky 1 HD), and Blu-ray movies, and a lot of PS3 games! Because of this I definitely want a set which is full-HD to make the most out of these sources. Even on a 32" set it is much better to have a 1080p resolution because it means that the tv can display content 'dot for dot' with pixels mapped at a 1:1 ratio - so 1080p pictures get shown as they are - no scaling needed.

Anyway, I am willing to pay good money for the best picture there is. I like the style of the Pioneer lcds, the Philips models and very much the Sony 40W4500 sets. I wish they could make a 37" version of the Sony W4500!

Please could someone tell me how these sets perform against each other in performance terms and without any reference to their prices. Please...

Well, we're just in the middle of a 37in TV Supertest that'll appear in our next issue (with subscribers from 6 Dec; in shops by 11 December), so will have more to tell you after that!

just to let you know if you are planning on wall mounting the size of the tv quickly shrinks - they don't look that big once positioned compare to 1m away in a shop - if you can get to 40/42 you will be so much happy long term - i bought a 32 cause thought was big enough lasted about 2 months before moved to bedroom as a second set - then bought a 40 and then a rojector - size does matter!
