About time i joined the home cinema revolution so im on the look out for a 2.1 system, possibly an all in one box.

Speakers and sub are taken care of just the electonics im after and i dont want to spend any more than £500.

The cambridge sonata system appeals , the dvd player has been reduced but the reciever is still a little expensive.

Any suggestions please.

Kusum65,

Your 2.1 blu-ray system choices are:

1. LG HB45E - £400 (4 ****)

2. Panasonic SC-BT222 - £300 (4 ****)

3. Samsung HT-C6200 - £450 ( 5 ****)

The reviews for these can be found in the latest issue of the magazine.

Thanks Ronald. These sytems have speakers and subs . I would rather use my existing Hi Fi. My Rotel stereo amp has a sub output i dont use as i link the sub with Hi level connections but i wont get real cinema effects using this i believe so im looking for electronics minus the speakers please.

The Arcam solo 2.1 movie unit would be perfect but i dont want to spend that money. Im also not to bothered about Blue Ray just yet.

£500 is a pretty healthy amount, but getting a 2.1 receiver will mean if you want to upgrade in the future you'll have to change equipment. I would def get a 5.1 receiver which will be fine for now but allow the expansion to 3.1 or 5.1.
If you can leave yourself £100 or so get a centre speaker (3.1) which will make a big difference

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I have to say though im not interested in 5.1 due to room constraints. I just want the sub working with the soundtrack properly.

The cambridge sonata dvd and receiver would be perfect for me having dedicated sub input/outputs but although the dvd is currently at a good price ( £79) the receiver is £320.

They had a model minus DAB radio at £200 but that seems to have gone. Im not paying an extra £100 for DAB radio. Been there done that wont do it again.
