Hi WhatHifi forum!

Im looking to buy one of theese speakers.. But its only possible for me to listen to the B&W 686's and I think they sounded great, considoring their size!

Is there anyone outthere, who has heard both models?

Whats your opinion on this speaker "battle"?

Thanks in advance!

I tested the 686's a while ago and my house mate owns the 10.1, and out of the two i would have to go with the 10.1 (He is using a NAD amp btw). If possible though i would save up for the B&W 685's.

The 686 sounds great for some a small speaker, however I found the bass to be a bit out of control compared to the Diamond 9.1 (which I'm sure isn't too dissimilar from the 10.1). It's difficult to make a decision if you can only hear the different speakers in isolation, you really need to be able to demo them together and compare (and always try to demo with the amplifier that will be driving them).

I compared the 686 and the wharf driven by Marantz CD/PM 6003 and the 686 was a class apart IMO. I think the 686 even outperformed the 685 in a head to head comparison I did at home but that again is my opinion. Some one else may disagree.

Is there a particular reason why you haven't considered the new Q Acoustics 2000 Cinema Pack as a further alternative to both of your options?

The QA rates higher than the WD's infact, from WHF's point of view.

Thanks guys, for your reply's.. Something to think over

And to ValianTX> Im only interested in a 2.0 system(Maybe 2.1 later on...) , and my room is limited in size 😉
