I am am on rather tight budget of no more than £600, although £500 would allow me a lot more room to breathe. Having taken a good look around I have discovered the Wharfedale LCD37F1080P at Argos (here). I have seen one working in store and they look ok, but I am unsure.

To me the price for the size seems too good to be true, so I need to find out what the problems are. It is a 42inch LCD, running in Full HD (1080P), built in Freeview and all the rest of the usual gubbins.

My main use for it is for SD content, although if I manage to only spend £500 I may also opt for a Freesat HD box. I will also have an XBox 360 hooked up to it, as well as a laptop (although not used all the time).

This is a big decision for me and I want it to be the right one. I don't intend on replacing this TV for some time, and want to future-proof myself, but also want to make surethat SD content will play fine without any loss in quality. I also need to make sure that I can purchase it from a store I can actually go into and pay cold, hard cash (I don't do credit cards).

It has taken me a year of nagging before I was even allowed to shop for one, so if I get it wrong I'll regret it more than most...

Hi you may be disappointed with the quality. That said i know nothing about their lcd so, if your happy thats what counts.

Check whif mags...( Report on the panasonic) For 600 pounds you may pick up a very good Panasonic Plasma good quality for the money .

Sorry i carnt help on the lcd but some of their products well....just miss the mark..Thats from my experince.

I,m sure someone else will be more helpful.

In which case, don't buy the Wharfedale, or indeed anything from Argos. Find the Panasonic th37px80 at the best price you can, in a shop you can walk into - Dixons do it for about £580 I think, you may find better, or John Lewis may have it and will price match.

Ignore the fact that it's only HD ready, not Full HD - at that size it doesn't matter.

I agree with John Duncan- The TH37PX80 is a definite bargain plasma at the moment.Had mine a couple of weeks- if you have a John Lewis nearby ,go and view it.If you like it reserve one and then ask for a price match against Sound and Vision currently selling at £562.33 See here. You need to give JL their phone number (although I think most JL branches have now got it on direct dial)

With JL you will also get a brilliant 5 yr warranty.Argos is not the best place for this sort of technology. There are several people on this forum who have got chittys to buy and gone with this model.Haven't seen any complaints yet.
