Weird Subwoofer levels on new Receiver

I've just bought a new Denon AVR-X2200W AV Receiver and I'm having a few issues with the subwoofer setup. I changed from an Onkyo 626 receiver and everything was working perfectly, but now I have to have the levels for the sub up to +10dB to get decent Bass with everything else down a LOT lower.

I have the following hardware:

Q Acoustics 3050 Fronts, 3090 Centre and 3010 Rears. I have a BK Electronics XXLS400 sub.

I used a SPL to measure the levels from the sweet spot so that all of the speakers were at 75dB with the results below:

Front L -7.0
Centre -8.5
Front R -6.5
Rear R -3.5
Rear L -3.5
Sub +10!!

Settings on the receiver are as follows: Crossover is set to 80 Hz. Distances are all set correctly. All speakers are set to 'Small'. Subwoofer Mode is LFE. LPF for LFE is 80 Hz.

Settings on the subwoofer are as follows: High Level not used. Single RCA input. Gain set to 12 O'Clock (half). Filter set to Out LFE. Frequency set to 12'Oclock (not used though as the Receiver does this). Phase set to 0.

So it sounds good now, but I'm worried that something is wrong as the dB level for the sub is so high, but on my older Onkyo it was much lower, in fact it was the same as the other speakers. The SPL says that everything is at 75dB during testing but I'm worried something is up with my settings!

Any suggestions?

If your bothered about the + 10 - increase the sub volume the run the setup again

The auto setup has obviously seen a low input based on Freq response or level for the sub and wants to run it hotter. I run my subs hot and its much better so no issue there and having owned a BK400 you need as much output as you can get in the lower end of things

I think I would look for a happier medium than +10 though on the sub in the settings that's a lot of gain there; turn the sub dial up to 3/4 ish and run it again.

My subs are different, different style of amp but I have them on pretty much full tilt. One is on -4 when the range is -100 to 0 (being max).

Might be an idea for a quick call to BK to check that this advice would be within the safe working range - they always answer the phone and are very helpful. I am sure it will be, sure I had mine at roughly that, or should have done if I didnt :)

Smudge.27, on my Denon 4810 receiver in the parlour, and on my Yamaha receivers in the other rooms, I have the opposite problem: I find the the receiver's equalisation software (Audyssey and YMPAO) tends to have the subwoofer level much too high, and I have to set the subwoofer about 4 dB down from the value that the receiver's software indicates.

Conversely, I find that the centre channel comes out as too low, and I have to boost all the centre channels by about 5dB above the recommended settings.

I've just installed my x6200 today and audyssey has set my sub to - 5.0 and it sounds mint with starwars the force awakens this eve.

all my speakers are set to small, even my focal floor standers so the sub works perfectly and all at 80 hz crossover and lpf for lfe to 120hz.

i also had very similar settings on my previous Denon recievers the 2113 and x4100.

try running setup again and set your speakers to small manually afterwards..
