Hi

I have an onkyo amp that is 95 watts per channel and 8 ohms. I was looking at getting the jamo A102 5.1 set but their output is 60 watts an 6 ohms. Am I likely to cause damage to the speakers or should they be OK?

The other speaker I am looking at are the KEF KHT1005.2 which are 100 watts and 8 ohms. Would they be a better match.

If someone could clear up my confusion/ignorance, I would be very grateful.

Cheers

Hey mate,

Firstly, don't worry too much about power ratings. It is easier to damage your gear if your amplifier is underpowered and trying to pump out more power than it is able to. It is better to have more power and have to turn the volume down.

Both loudspeaker packages should work fine with your Onkyo A/V Receiver. In regards to ohm-age, the lower the nominal ohm level, the more current/power the loudspeakers are likely to draw from your amplifier. However, for a speaker package such as this, I cannot see it being especially difficult for your Onkyo to drive/power, therefore, I do not see any problems whatsoever.
