Finaly its arrived! War of the Worlds the blu-ray version I have been waiting for. See what format wars do?

And its good to see Dts-Master HD sound included.

Now just need the release of Ironman II and Forbbidon Planet on blu-ray and I will be a happy little bunny

I suspect this will look a trifle washed out. My memory is that it was overly (and artificially) graded and there's a shedload of pre-hd cgi which may well not look all that great.

As for FORBIDDEN PLANET, I have this on HD-DVD and it looks terrific for its age. A fair bit of grain, and simple special effects, but that's what it is.

It'll probably be from the same HD master. I hope they transfer the same extras over.

Andrew Everard:Presumably the original version, not the Tom Cruise twonk...

I love popcorn flicks as much as the next guy, but war of the worlds with tom cruise.... Sucks.

And I even like Gamer and 2012... So that says lots about what I thought about the movie

But andrew... Do you like any popcorn flicks? something that will turn your brain to jelly just because its full of action and no real story?

Did you like transformers? or Matrix 1 not 2, but 3 ok.

Granted the ending is rubbish, but the film itself is very well done. Plenty of tension in the excellent cellar scene, and totally convincing destruction scenes add realism to the movie. Dakota Fanning is excellent as always, and as much as I'm not a Cruise fan, this is one of his better movies (along with Magnolia).

It's a masterpiece next to the remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still.......

Thank you.

The problem is we all like different things (just like hi-fi). And any one persons view on a movie is just like one persons view on a piece of hi-fi - subjective. Does that make one person's view irrelevant?

But then, some people like The Strangers, Transporter 2, Tomb Raider 2, Open Water, Transformers 2, The Invasion.......

FrankHarveyHiFi:Granted the ending is rubbish,

Do you mean the ending where the aliens die or the ending where he finds his family and everyone's happy? Cos the aliens dying from a cold is straight out of the book, so you can't blame the film for that one.

Twonk or twonkless, though the re-make all be the story line is weak to say the least can be entertaining enough in parts & Tim Robbins has the best part, as for Dakota Fanning, very annoying to put it mildly.

Naah, I meant that it just happened to be TC who noticed the aliens shields were down - the thousands of troops seemed oblivious to this. It ended a little quickly for my liking. The aliends dying from our common germs I don't have a problem with - it's possible.

Upgraded system?

I only bought a Dali Ikon centre and moved my surrounds.

But feels like a massive upgrade though.

Just like the wife says, position is everything

Yep grainy washed out picture same as the dvd version. But I never saw the film at the Cinema? So I'm not sure if this is the way the film was shot? Dts-Master sound is excellent. No compaints here.
