While waiting for a customer yesterday, I had a free 10 minutes to spare. Usually, this means sitting in the van listening to the radio, but my customer was a stone's throw from 'Kimberley Hi-Fi' on Lower Addiscombe Rd, Croydon.
With a firm intention to upgrade my 602s sometime this year, the search is on for some smaller standmounts.
There were the usual suspects present, but the ones that caught my eye which I hadn't been aware of before were the Vienna Acoustics Hayden Grand standmounts.
The guy told me they're £900 a pair. The dimensions and appearance certainly ticked all the boxes. He went and got a CD to demo them to me. The Naim amp & CD he had them connected to refused to work though (mute light just flashed, guess there's something amiss there), so he ran them off the entry level Arcam FMJ CD & amp (Probably a good thing seeing as I'd be partnering them with my own Arcams).
The music was far from the usual stuff I listen to, but the acoustic guitar & piano sounded much more real than they do with my 602s. Very fluid mids and no hint of harshness in the treble. Overall, very impressed with the 2/3 tracks I heard. Soundstage was very good too with a depth I've not encountered before.
I'd like to hear them with something a bit more up my street.
Just wondered if anyone else had heard them or their bigger floorstanding brothers.
