video but no sound from a ps3

I've connected my ps3 to my Denon AVR 1909 and then to my tv by hdmi. the pictures great but I can't get any sound from the amp. Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong?

A bit more detail is needed - how is it all connected up? What setup have you done to both the amp and the PS3?

HDMI lead into the amp, the HDP source, then HDMI into the tv. The video goes through to the tv ok, but no sound signal registers with the amp. If I plug the ps3 straight into the tv sound and video works fine.

Hi losmanos,

I have a ps3 plugged into an Onyko 905 and the Video settings are:

BD/DVD video output format HDMI = Automatic

BD 1080 24 hz ootput HDM = Automatic

BD/DVD dynamic range control = Automatic

BD/DVD audio output format HDMI = Linear PCMDigital

BD audio output formst Optical = Linear PCM

all the others setting are either english or automatic

This enables us to watch and hear Bluerays via the Onkyo and my B&W 685 theatre package and it looks and sounds stunning even the wife likes it as she watched Die Hard 4 on blueray last night and loved it (praise indeed!).

Thanks for that. Are those settings changed via the ps3 or my receiver? I've tried everything I know, and I'm still getting video but no sound when connecting the ps3 to my Denon by HDMI, whereas when | connect the ps3 to my tv by HDMI I get video and sound, help!

Have you actually set the PS3 to output audio over HDMI?

For the old (Fatboy) Playstation3:

Select Sound Settings

Select HDMI

Select AUTO

Check that all the DD, DTS and all PCM up to 7.1 are ticked.

Save

Go to BD/DVD settings (withing Video I think)

Select audio output format as PCM and save.

For the new slimline Playstation3:

Select Sound Settings

Select HDMI

Select AUTO

Check that all the DD, DTS and all PCM up to 7.1 are ticked.

Save

Go to the BD/DVD settings

Select audio output format as bitstream and save.

Make sure your amp is in auto mode
