I have a decent Loewe Vitros crt to which I would like to add a Home cinema sound system with out spending millions and only using front speakers.

What kind of results can i expect from only using 3 front speakers and a sub? Thinking of discontinued Denon ADV 1000 with Mordaunt Short Alumini speakers or similar.

Messiah:I think you will be much better of just buying a decent stereo amp and speakers (and sub) and just playing the film in this manner.

I think not. There will be obsolete detail in sound if multichannel stereo downmixed into 2 channel stereo, unless if the movie disc being played was originally recorded in 2 channel stereo or multichannel DTS.

I'd like to suggest lupo191 to set all speakers "yes" in your receiver menu, so that it would deliver pure detail sound quality to every respective speakers. Off course you will not be able to hear any sound dedicated for surround channel, but it is worth to maintain sound quality for your front speakers including center.

Well maybe you can demo both options??

Try a reciever with the 3 front speakers (the upside of this configuration though is that you will have the option of adding rears at a later date if you change your mind) and try just a stereo set up and see what you prefer.
