Can anyone advise if the following is possible? With Marantz NR1601 or Marantz NR1501 connected to Boston Soundware XS.

I do not want to connect the 2 rear speakers yet. Effectively it would be a 3.1 system.

So firstly can the Amp be set to output 3.1 or will it be defaulting to 5.1? If its 5.1 will I notice the sound being "cropped"

Secondly as an interim can I connect the two rear speakers as front high speakers?

Want to buy decent gear but short on space (hence the Marantz) and just not ready to hide the cables properly.

Eventually will chase the cables through the walls.

I have a 1601 and the soundware speakers, if you run the auto calibration , it recognizes what speakers are connected and adjusts accordingly . Enjoy !

Now waiting for the UD5505 to complete it all !

Thanks for the reply :)

Hey, how much space have you got around your 1601? I'm going to have 2cm either side, 6cm above, closed back open front. Been agonising before buying about if that's enough! Think I'll be ok for cooling?

Cheers!
