I listen to alot of music through vigin music on demand and various music channels, if i buy a dac and connect it to my tv useing an optical cable will that do the trick? would the dac then plug into my amp useing normal phono leads? if anyone knows how to this please let me know! also, dac magic or musical fidelitys v-dac? not sure which one....

Personally I'd plug the V-box direct into the DAC (provided it's one of the later ones with an optical out) rather than using the optical out from the telly, seeing as it's probably been trhough a whole laod of prcoessing before it gets there. Caveat being that if you use it like that for video watching as well, you may have lip-sync issues...

No optical on the v-box, i will be getting a new one in a month with hard drive and optical connection, i can make do for a month buy plugging it into the tv, are there large gains in sound quality and what dac to buy?

Well when I did a compare between the two I actually kind of enjoyed a direct out from the telly to the hifi, but that was because I could switch virtual surround on and I was watching football - can't say I tried it with music.

But either of those DACs would be good choices - there's a suggestion that the MF is a bit warmer, the DM a bit cleaner and more analytical. I happened to go for the latter, and it sounds great.

Using a V+ box linked to my Naimuniti at the mo.

Better than relying on the TV speakers but doesn't seem to be much difference in sound between phono connection and the dac / optical connection.
