I've just been reading through the user manual of my new Samsung TV and found an entry under timer recording which says that I can "make a reservation to record a pregramme scheduled for broadcast". I assume that I could do this for one channel while at the same time recording another channel on my Sony HDD. The TV manual says that I would need a USB HDD with at least 5,400rpm but not a RAID type. I would welcome advice on suitable devices, please.

I'm not familiar with that particular model, but I can tell you that most systems don't like the USB devices to be formatted in anything else than good old FAT32.

Given that most USB HDs come pre-formatted as NTFS, it's simple to connect them up to a PC and when reformatting, select FAT32 as the formatting option.

Good luck!

I have the TV and it works just fine in NTFS Format for playing 3D MKV Movies in eitgher SideBS or Over Under format. Im not sure about the PVR function and it may require a different format such as Ext2/3 but your best of going for a 2.5" USB portable drive (usb powered).

£80 for a 1TB drive

Thanks. Would a Western Digital Elements 1TB USB 2.0 HDD fit the bill? £49.99 from Amazon. Or do I need a media player for around £80?

I use a 16GB memory stick for recording which works fine and gives me about 3.5 hours of HD programmes.

I'm hoping to get one of the Panny Blu Ray recorders at a later date (when prices rocket down hopefully), so didn't want to spend too much on a USB HDD for now.
