Hi everyone, I'm in a bit of a quandry regarding some speakers i've been offered. I currently have some Monitor Audio BX2s, with a Marantz PM66 ki amp, Marantz cd5400 player and Technics SL1500 T/T with sme 3009 and shure V15 typeIII. I really like the current setup, but a friend has offered me some Monitor audio BR5s for £180. I used to have some Tannoy floorstanders, which i liked, but after an upgrade to the BX's there was no comparison. I suppose what i'm asking is: would i get a better more refined sound from the floorstanders as they have a separate bass and mid speakers, as opposed to the BX2's as the one driver does both?

I have to let the guy know by tomorrow morning, as he plans to sell them to a local hifi shop if i don't want them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have it in your pocket, get them.

You still have the option to sell them on if you hear no obvious improvement.

As the price for a new pair of BR5's was over £500, I would also say go for it, you say that you used to have some floorstanders so I think you will get on ok with these.

Hope this helps.

I love my BR5 🙂

£180 is not exactly mates rates though so I wouldn't Rush in to it.

best case on eBay is £180 so £160 after fees. £160 for cash would be fair mates rates.
