I am totally overhauling my home cinema after 10 yrs in the dark with my pre-HD Panasonic viera and pioneer VSX av reciever. My intention is to have the Panasonic Veira 50GT plasma, Yamaha RXV 673, a new Sky+ HD box and my current Panasonic Blu Ray player, my speakers will stay the same. Whilst I know that 3D Blu ray players can upscale my old DVDs to simulated 3D on the Panasonic 50GT, would the Yamaha RXV 673 be able to upscale my DVDs from my current DVD payer to my 50 GT or do I need a 3D Blu ray player? Also the Thatcable HDMI with ethernet claims to connect two devices to the internet when only one of them maybe WIFI enabled, does anyone know if this can be more than two devices e.g. can I connect the Sky+ HD box to the internet, via the Yamaha RXV 673 which is receiving the internet from the Panasonic 50GT's WIFI?

The Yamaha won't convert 2D material to 3D. It's of no consequence, though. Your TV can handle 2D-to-3D-conversion on the fly, though I'm confident this is a feature you'll try a couple of times and never use again. Genuine 3D content works much better. As long as your receiver can pass through 3D video data, which all new receivers can do, it's functioning as it should.

For a cheap 3D Blu-ray player that's a genuinely excellent performer, look at the Panasonic DMP-BDT120 (or 220 if you need wireless connectivity). Alternatively, all Sony 2012 BDPs will do an equally excellent job. You really don't have to spend much on a BDP, as long as all you're looking for is a 2D/3D Blu-ray player and DVD upscaler.

So playing a 2D DVD through by Blu ray player via my receiver (yes it does take 3D data) will get upscaled by the Panasonic GT50 to give me a "simulated" 3D?
I was considering buying the Panasonic DMP-BDT120 for £50 provided I buy the TV, however, my issue is with it being region 2 and it galls me that maufacturers are still £uc!n& us over for region-free functionality, as many of my DVDs are from various regions.

If that's what you want, yes, but I'm certain you'll tire of 2D-to-3D conversion on the fly very quickly. It's much better to watch actual 3D content rather than converting 2D material. The difference between the two is really quite significant.

Yes, region locking is a pain, but you'll have the same issue whichever BDP you buy. Some retailers, such as Richer Sounds, sell Blu-ray players that play DVDs from all regions for a small premuim over the original price.
