Over the next couple of months im upgrading it all to Sony, the items im looking at getting are as follows:

http://www.sony.co.uk/product/blu-ray-disc-player/bdp-s550

http://www.sony.co.uk/product/t32-w-series/kdl-40w4500

http://www.sony.co.uk/product/hcs-surround-kit---dvd-player/dav-is10

also sky+(which i already have),

Im trying to get my head around setting it all up, i know that im going to us a hdmi cable from the dvd/reciever/amp hdmi out socket to the tv, but whats the best way to plug in the blu ray and Dsky+, shall i plug them straight into the hdmi socket on the tv or coax or analogue sockets or even the optical socket on the dvd/reciever/amp.

Or has anybody have any ideas what i should buy, i want:

40-42" lcd tv (ive been told that plasma's are not very good and you have to fill them with gas all the time),

Blu ray,

Cinema surround sound, with speakers

Dvd player

And i have about £1500 to spend

First of all, I would seriously think twice about buying the home cinema system. You would not be getting anywhere near the quality you could for the same money. If you are buying the BDP S350, you don't need a dvd player as well - the BD player can do both. I would get a decent AV receiver like the Sony STR-DA2400ES which are selling for around £400-450. This will enable you to connect your Sky + box to it using S video which will be upscaled to 1080p. You would then need a digital optical cable from receiver to Sky + box which will give you surround sound. The BD player can be connected to the receiver via a single hdmi cable. This will give you a great picture and HD audio. As for speakers, if we say that you have £200 for BD player (Richer Sounds are selling them for £199.95) and £400 for AV receiver

this will leave you over £700 for speakers! You will get around 200% improvement over the set up you were planning on buying! If you want small compact speakers, take a look at the Mission Cube speakers or if you don't mind silver, this is a great deal -

Or maybe something like,

http://www.petertyson.co.uk/ebuttonz/ebz_product_pages/tannoy_arena_lite.shtml

Any of these would blow the Sony home cinema system away.

One last point is that you could swap your Sky + box for a Sky HD box for not much money. You could sell your box on ebay and buy a second hand HD box for about £50 difference. They connect up exactly the same and all you need to do is call Sky and say that you have switched boxes and can they pair your Sky card to it. No need to pay £10 a month extra and you would get the free to air HD channels like BBC HD and C4HD plus the normal channels will be shown on your screen with a better picture because of the hdmi connection.

Good luck.

I agree, although for around £1k, I would go with LCD, I think we have the same screen and I agree they are brilliant - you can't go wrong with Sony LCDs. If I had the money - top of the range Pioneer plasma all day long but they are three times the price!
