Hello

I’ve just put my last pair of Tannoy F4s on ebay and want to move upwards in a few months

I have a temporary set of 1020 and they sound really good but what I’m seeking is the same clear sound with much larger sound stage, more depth and that thump when you hear a kick drum

I listen to all sorts of music from classical to dubstep

I will have around £500 to spend – I don’t know what would be best bookshelf or floor standing speaker but I’m thinking floor standing as my F4s were pretty good

Any help would be appreciated

At the risk of repeating myself for a vocation, I'll suggest Q Acoustics 2050 floorstander, £370 for the graphite or walnut finish, or £449 for the black piano gloss finish (or white). Great write-ups and worth investigating. The 1050i floorstanders were also highly rated and good to partner more expensive amps up to the likes of Leema's excellent Pulse amp.

Otherwise, not too sure really - the Qs are a big speaker, twin drivers, middle mounted tweeter in between the two bass units, great build, in fact, you wouldn't think they were a £370 speaker to look at (saw some a few weeks ago in Leeds, really swish and a big sound for the brief time I heard them).

Other alternatives would be the Epos M16i floorstander at Superfi - down to £599 from £1100.

I should clarify I wasn't being funny with my opening sentence earlier, but I usually recommend people to consider the Q speakers if they want a good floorstander for a sub-£500 outlay. Used to be a floorstander under that amount was supposed to be avoided, so I think when a British company does one this good, it needs to be shouted about a bit!

You could also look at the Acoustic Energy Neo V2 floorstander - running in in our demo room at the moment and sounding rather good. Likewise the Monitor Audio Bronze BR5, which are reduced in price at the moment.
