two lots speaker cable

i have a B&w surround set up in my living room for movies . can i run a seperate set of speaker cables to a hifi sytem at same time ? ie one system for tv and dedicated seperates for music ?

I would have to say no, that sounds like a bad idea. I'm sure one of the more technically minded bods will be along soon to explain why.

No: chances are you will make one or both systems go bang unless you disconnect the cables to the system you're not using before turning the other on.

And however sure you are that you'll remember to do this, one day you'll forget...

No. This is where you use the front left and right pre outs of your receiver and connect it to your stereo amp. The stereo amp then does the power job for your front left and right in your surround system (both amps need to be on) and then the stereo amp does the rest for your music. You then only have speaker cable connected from your stereo speakers to your stereo amp.
