Having read much on the forum on the pros and cons of LCD and plasma screens and been to see a few , i have reached the point of indecision.

My options started with a Panasonic TH-42PX80B viewed at comet but on going to a more specialised retailer i viewed the sony range and still preferred the panasonic upto the point of seeing the KDL40X3000 which is an excellant screen and didnt seem to have any of the LCD problems i have read about. Is this all down to the Bravia PRO engine or are there other factors at play?

The down side of the Sony X series is the cost, the New Panasonic TH42PZ85B seems on paper to represent a big jump in quality over the 80B without too big a jump in cost.

The final contender in this bout is the Pioneer PDP428XD ,having read good things on the forum except for a few complaints of buzzing sounds. I have seen this, but only with a loop of a pioneer promotion which i don't think is very representative of normal viewing, there is only so much you can get out of a black cat on a black background.

All comments and thoughts will be much appreciated and considered

Thanks Stevebinary

I think the new Panas will push the Pioneer closer than the Sony (great set, but did you see it with football/sport? With very dark scene in a film?)

However, the Panasonic PZ85 and PZ800s are going to have to be mighty fine to be better than the Pioneer Kuros, which are still the best we've seen with SD, DVD and HD sources.

We've got an '85 set in and will be bringing you verdicts soon.

I was just gunna ask when the review of the Panasonic models that were quoted as 'arriving in our test rooms tomorrow' in that article were going to be. Soon?
We've got an '85 set in and will be bringing you verdicts soon.
I am looking very hard into getting this set at the moment, along with the PZ80 and PX80. When and where is this review going to appear? Just want to know if it is better than the PZ70 and worth the £1100 I plan to spend.... seeing as it is a panny, I think it can be assumed that we are going to see yet another 5 star review.

I am hoping that because this thread was commenced in March that it will be free from the tomfoolery that is associated with April 1st!!

Well we're certainly assuming nothing - the sets are being put rigorously through their paces as we speak. WIll update on test dates (here and in mag) shortly.
