Well folks, my sister-in-law is getting married in a couple of months. She's just built a house and as her wedding present she's looking a TV for her new front room. It's between a few sisters and parents so the budget will stretch to £1000.

The room is big enough to fit a 46 - 50 inch TV.

Now, Im a plasma fan-boy. I just recently got a Panasonic 46PZ85 and Im more than happy with it. The husband-to-be does consider himself an expert on all subjects and thinks that plasma is terrible and on the way out and LCD is where it's at. I always thought LCD looked very bright and almost too real, but who am I too argue.

So Im after a few suggestions for what to look for in LCDs as Im a bit biased against them.

So far I've some up with-

Sony Bravia KDL46V5500U for £999 incl 3 year guarantee. I can't find reviews of this. Might this be another model under a different model no.? Again, all I've heard so far about Sony's is the dodgy backlighting issue.

Samsung LE46A686 for £999.

To satisfy my plasma urges I've seen the LG 50PS8000 for £999. This gets a good review from this very web-site.

They will mainly use SDTV and XBox360 and will eventually go HD. They're your average viewers, so stuff us experts on here might see, wouldn't probably annoy them. Also, we are in N. Ireland, so if suggesting online retailers for good deals, bear in mind that they normally charge delivery over here, which can be quite steep.

Cheers in advance.

the v5500 doesnt have 100hz , so for sports or possibly xbox motion will suffer a small bit , the samsung does have 100hz , but i think if you could stretch to about £1200 the samsung 46b650 ( replacement for 656 ) has 100hz and much better sd pics according to reviews , if budget is strict the 656 might be the answer , i wouldnt go with lg but thats just my opinion ... your panny would be great too imo , but as you say the plasma may be out ..

If you're gonna go for a Plasma then i'd go for the Panasonic TX-P46G10 - can be found online for around £1100.00

or

If its going to be a LCD screen then I would go for the Sony KDL-46W4000 - can be found online for around £950.00; its last years model but was an award winning 5 star set.

Kind Regards

Andy
