Transformer hum

Hi,

I've just bought a marantz cd6007, and there' a clear mains hum from the unit itself- not in the sound output.
My first thought is magnetostriction in the transformer.
I can hear it up to 2m away in a quiet room.
My old player was silent in this regard, as is my amp, and everything else pretty much.
I'm contacting the supplier, and am thinking it cannot be normal, but I'm interested to hear if anyone else has any experience: I'm hoping a direct replacement will fix it, but if this is normal, I'm going to have to consider a different model instead, I think.

Thanks!
Jon

I’m sure it’s not normal. If it had a figure of 8 plug I’d have said try reversing the polarity, but not with a IEC connector. You could just try a spare lead if you have one, and a socket in another room.

Definitely not right if you can hear anything other than with your ear pressed to the casing.
