Hi All,

I am about to buy a 46inch LCD tv and I have come across Loewe and as a self confessed Sony lover I am wondering whether its worth paying the c£1-2k more for a Loewe vs the comparable Sony model. I was really impressed in the shop at the look of it all but I wonder if in the cold light of day its worth it. Any thoughts ideas gratefully received.

Thks

Paul

If you're looking for value for money, look elsewhere. Perhaps a Sony or a Philips will serve you better. Loewe TVs are superb in their own right with excellent picture quality and an audio quality far better than the mainstream brands (ofcourse, people who can afford a Loewe usually have a separates system, making the TV's speakers pointless). They're built to a very high standard, not something you'll see in mainstream TVs like Sony or Philips. You'll be more proud to own a Loewe than a Sony.

loewe is a fashion brand so you are paying for the design which can be very important to some. i dont agree the TV picture is better than mainstream brands, but the build quality usually is.

A little unfair to dismiss Loewe as 'a fashion brand' when it has a longer consumer electronics heritage than, say, Sony, and has been making TV sets for the better part of 80 years.

You can't get away from the fact that both Loewe and B&O offer a level of quality and engineering that the mainstream brands just can't match. Whether or not you are willing to pay the big premium for that quality when technology is changing at such an incredible pace is an altogether different question.

By buying a Lowe you are making a statement/lifetsyle choice. Its like buying a Rolex or a Timex. They both do the same thing.

The main question i would consider is how long you wish to keep the TV for . If its 10 years then Lowe is a good investment. If you will be changing Tv's every few years in light of advancements in technology then a Sony/Panasonic maybe better. ......................Unless your rich then what the hell.

if 3d really takes off in the next few years your expensive tv will be worth alot less , any decent 46inch tv wont be far behind the loewe , some are argually as good , at a fraction of the price , probably not a good time for buying a loewe ..

Thanks a lot for all your posts. All happens figure it out. Max is there any particular set you think is arguably as good for a fraction of the price? Also, I have been advised given the size (46") that a plasma may in fact be a better option. Is that something worth considering?thks again.Paul

hi paul , in my laymans opinion there are some great tvs for sale between £1000 and £1500 at the moment , if it was my money id go for the panasonic 50v10 plasma ,they dont do a 46v10 , whfi were not blown away when they tested the 42inch version ,they gave it 4 stars , which is a good rating , but other reviewers were very impressed , saying it was the closest any tv has come to the reference pioneer kuro , even the 50g10 at £915 would be a great buy in my opinion , id also take a look at the samsung 46b650 , 46b750 lcds , the 46b8000 led lcd , and the philips 9664 that whfi and many other tv reviewers are raving about , although a 47inch version of the 9664 would be about £1800 ..

anyway it just seemed like buying a £2600 loewe right now may be a bad move , if , in two years 3d is sweeping the av world , would you want to upgrade your loewe ?? at least a cheaper tv to use until this whole 3d thing pans out could mabye go in a bedroom in a few years should you decide to buy something special , although by then oled will be looming , probably oled 3d , or god knows what else , lol , maybe buying a b and o , or loewe 20 years ago was a better long term bet , as tvs didnt change that much , will you benefit from the build quality and expected longevity today ?
