Tone arm mounting boards.....

So I have just returned from picking up the (mint condition) Linn Basik LVV (why does Linn - a scottish company - give all its products Ikea inspired names?) tone-arm. I took a punt on it because it was listed as 'tone arm' on Fleabay and I got it for £47.00. There are many questions that I have:

i) is that a deal? New it was about £100... have they appreciated or depreciated? How does the tone-arm compare to a Rega 300 or SME 3009?

ii) Shall I punt it on and concentrate on the Rega or build (for my second - bedroom - turntable) a Thorens TD150 around it?

iii) Can I build a Thorens TD150 around it? Are, in general, arm boards a similar size and fit? Will I be able to drop the arm board into a Thorens or will I need to cut it this way or that?

The answers to these questions decide whether I keep or sell. Thanks for your help.

At risk of incurring Andrews disapproval for all things 'Wiki' here is all I can find so far...

The source given was this interview with Ivor T .....

"Ivor: The Linn Sondek originally cost £36 as a chassis and £64 complete with plinth and cover and
the 'K' came from the idea of using the name sound deck simplified to communicate the revolutionary idea that the turntable would influence the sound. Thereafter the 'K' acquired a kind of mystic significance. "

Well they were not to know that, many years later, a Swedish based flat pack home furnishings company would break upon the UK market and...

Anyways Chebby you were one of my hopes for answering the other questions.... no opinions today?

Sorry. Linn Basik LVV

I had one for a while (many years ago) on a Walker CJ 55 suspended sub-chassis turntable. It was ok.

But if I were you get an RB-250 (or RB300) and get it on something like a Systemdek IIX 900 when one comes up on ebay.

A Linn LVX was a better arm (than the LVV) but I still prefer the Rega.

You are into building up a deck so the Rega RB-250 arm will accomodate future modifications. (Like the counterweight for instance.)

Have a word with these chaps or go to their website and phone them. They often get Linn TT's , systemdeks and other goodies and have their own engineers and they sell Linn, Jelco, and Rega arms. (New and used.)

Build their own turntables too! (Reviewed highly favourably in another UK hifi mag this month).
