Just back from a whistlestop trip to Japan – flew out Sunday night, back Friday morning – to visit Panasonic's TV manufacturing plants in Japan and talk tech with the company's R&D, production and marketing teams.

Three blogs already online:

Himeji LCD cell factory, Panasonic's latest

Amagasaki Plasma

And the company's state of the art recycling plant, PETEC

More to follow, hopefully tomorrow.

UPDATE: Blog added on Panasonic's fascinating House of History museum

UPDATE: And again to add final blog from the Viera technical day

Far from it. Just drop in enough to worry engineers that I may have understood what they were saying when they had rapid discussions before answering questions

I find knowing "thankyou" and "two beers please" in the local lingo, along with a thorough knowledge of English with mime skills and shouting is enough to survive anywhere in the world.

Your very welcome. The technology used by these guys is fantastic and the outlay to set up such a facility must have been astronomical, as i used to own a sign company years ago i would have been pulling what little hair i,ve got out just trying to manufacture and install the lettering on the roof.

Just read the blog, there is no mention of the calibration supported by the 2011 models - can you provide details?

I calibrate my PC screen on a regular basis (as a bit of an amateur photographer) and I understand Panasonic are in partnership with another company to provide software that using a colourometer does a one touch adjustment using the ethernet port on the screen?

- THX 3D Certification on VT GT and G (2010 only 2D THX certification)
- ISFccc Certified Calibration Configuration on VT GT G + DT LCD

Beyond the presence of a THX setting and of course the ability to alter just about everything in the calbration configuration, nothing else was mentioned.
