Hi All,

I've recently been refurbing our living-room, kitchen & downstairs cloakroom. It took some hi level negotiations but I finally managed to convince the better half that now would be a good time to update our all in one DVD/Home cinema system to a decent separates setup. After weeks of deliberately tripping over & swearing at the speaker cables that were strewn all over our living room I convinced her that while I was re-plastering the walls it would be an ideal time to feed everything, nice and neatly through the walls.

I cant tell you how happy I am with the finished result. A lot of time, thought, effort and money went into this so I thought I would share it with everyone on the WHF forum and see what your thoughts and comments are. After all, it was everyone on here that helped me sort it out.

[class="Apple-style-span"]After I spent 6 months in and out of demo rooms listening to every setup imaginable I plunged for the Marantz SR-5005. The 7005 was out of my budget & there [/class]wasn't[class="Apple-style-span"] enough justification to spend the extra on the 6005. As I said, I tried every combination of amp/speakers you could think of and for me the Marantz was by far the better sounding amp for both cinema & music, especially as it was to be situated in a normal, mid terraced house, under normal listening conditions. I found that a lot of the amps and combinations I listened to were fantastic all the time they were blowing the plaster off the walls but in a real, I want to keep my neighbor's, world, they just didn't cut it.[/class]

[class="Apple-style-span"]The only thing I have [/class]occasional[class="Apple-style-span"] problems with, and any suggestions would be gratefully [/class]received[class="Apple-style-span"], is sound from my Sky HD box. It [/class]doesn't[class="Apple-style-span"] happen all of the time but every now and again on some of Sky's Dolby transmissions, the dialogue is almost [/class]impossible[class="Apple-style-span"] to hear. No amount of adjusting the [/class]center[class="Apple-style-span"] channel helps, the dialogue is just drowned out by the surround sound and I end up turning dolby off. Is this a Sky problem? has anyone else suffered from this?[/class]

Thanks to everyone on the WHF forum for all your help in the past. I wouldn't have know where to start without the knowledge you all passed on.

So my new setup includes -

Marantz SR-5005, MA RX6 Front & Centre, MA BR1's Rear, REL T3 Sub, 42" Pioneer PDP Plasma, Sky HD, PS3, Sony BDP-S570 Bluray and a Harmony One Remote with PS3 Adapter.

Not sure if the image will work but here goes.....

Looks good to me. Wonder how wooden floors behave in a home cinema setup. Before anyone else asks - have you tried moving the centre forward to the edge of the unit when in use and in line with the fronts ?

Must go and watch some serious BD - its far too cold to venture out.

Cheers

Hi Robin,

As long as I have enough rugs and soft furnishings the wooden floors dont seem to make a difference.

I'll try moving the center forward a bit but dont think it will help with the Sky dialogue problem.

Who knows.

Thanks again,

Recon Sky centre is a bit recessed sometimes. Is your centre rear ported. Mine is AND inside a cabinet. I use the equaliser to boost both the volume of the centre and enhance the vocal range around 100-6000Hz. Seems to work generally.

I have those, and all I did was turn the centre speaker up a few notches as well as the treble setting, and everything is all good.

But be carefull with the treble, I have x-curve on mine, and while it keeps the treble it tones the high notes off it, not sure if the marantz has that.

I used the MCACC set-up and then just raised and lowered as I saw fit, it set the distance to the MM, but some of the levels I didnt like.
