TV resolution formats have always been a result of vertical resolution and aspect ratio. 1920 came about from 1080 at an appropriate ratio. Cinema is already shot in 2k which is 2048x1080 and is already rejiggered to 1920, so I don't see how this 4k issue is new or unexpected. TVs were never going to be a cinema aspect ratio, the demise of Phillips arguably proved that.
