I watched the Tudors off Freesat on Friday and could only get my Onkyo to show the two front speakers, is it only broadcast in stereo and not surround? Did anyone get full surround and if so on what setting. I got a HDMI cable from the Freesat box to the Onkyo. Just wondering if I've got anything wrong.

The picture was superb though on 1080p.

I was browsing Blu-ray discs in a shop last week and the Tudors Series 1 was there in glorious 5.1 according to the box. ÿShame it isn't broadcast like that.

My Onkyo showed the signal as Dolby Digital and all 5 speakers and the sub lit up but I only seemed to get sound out of the front 3 for some reason

I've just checked carefully while I was watching a recording of the last episode. ÿI was incorrect when I said it was only in stereo - the theme tune is clearly in 5.1. ÿHowever, no effort seems to have been made with the rest of the programme. ÿAt best, the surrounds add fractionally to the ambience, but everything is, practically speaking, ÿin stereo. ÿAs for the pictures, though...................although my other half had to go out near the end when it all became rather gruesome!

I think I might have got my settings wrong and the Tudors are in 5.1

I'll watch tonight and confirm

I watched Heroes on Wednesday on HD and definitely got 5.1 when I changed some settings.

I've got an HDMI from my Freesat box to my Receiver and an HDMI cable from my Receiver to my TV, when I altered a setting on my TV (Panasonic TH4PZ85B) it altered the display on my Receiver from showing just 2 speakers to Dolby Digital plus all 5 speakers and the sub and the sound was in 5.1.

In my TV I altered the sound setting in the HDMI section to digital.

How can your TV affect what your receiver does? Very strange unless the signal is going from the Receiver to the TV and then back to the Receiver before going to the speakers-seems a long way round? Anyway it worked and we had no lip sync problems.

Hope anyone who's interested can understand this

As per my previous post I've watched tonight programme and we did get 5.1 surround sound although the rear speakers did not get much to do, but the sub was rumbling away at times.

The storyline was well strung out but the pictures were absolutey gorgeous.

So I managed to get it all worked for the last programme, let's hope they repeat the entire series and i'll get it right from the start.
