Some DACs need driver intalation if you want to use the USB input, for exemple Chord came to mind, if you have a Windows/Linux/IOS based OS.

Other DACs like Rega, Primare, Naim, Arcam to name a few don't require driver instalation to be used through the USB input.

its currently on order, i have had the older rega dac and currently use the onboard dac from the leema elements amp, i'm guessing there will be no difference in sound from the old rega dac (maybe usb) but with the added remote its more practical for me, i loved the old rega dac but getting up all the time to change imputs was its main pain for me.

Same here about the remote!

I've read that you'll need to instal a codec to have 24/192 though the USB input, and thats a downer for me, as Synology NAS does not allow any codec installations, and i will need to have a usb/spdf converter to be abble to play my hi-res.

In the "old" dac the usb and spdf are two different circuits and realy sound different, the USB input is the reason that i still have this DAC.

If the new one will have different circuits I'll need to hear it first! Let's see how it goes...

ok its arrived and worth the wait, i have it hooked up using a standard usb cable (audiophile usb cables are not worth it) and powered by chord power chords, connected to my leema amp via TQ Black interconnects, i'm no reviewer but the sound is crisp and clear, the bass is tight and the new dac-r oozes the rega sound, i'm surrounded by instuments and enveloped into the rega sound stage.

I am currently streaming using TIDAL and the quality is astonishing, well worth the 20 quid per month.
