Rega reveals 7th generation Brio amplifier – and this time it has a DAC!

The future of 2 channel audio is in the living room, and if you don't support HDMI eARC then you're probably wasting your time, and certainly mine.

Agreed - and that's where the new Musical Fidelity B1xi amp comes in - at a similar price but with HDMI. A shootout beckons, but now no-one's had it so good at the lower end. They also have a new matching CD player. Hoping they launch a streamer too.

I would personally have liked it better without an internal dac but i understand why they included it. I recently sold my Brio MK6 and got the Exposure XM5. The Brio has a fuller midrange and digs a little deeper than the MX5. The MX5 has a bit more sparkle on top and a wider sound stage. I can definitely hear things on the MX5 that i could not hear on the Brio MK6.

Just to give a contrasting view. I'm definitely interested in this product for my study hi-fi setup (currently a Rega iO with P1 turntable and Cambridge Audio MXN10 steamer, to benefit from the DAC / digital input upgrade, and the half wide size works for my compact setup. My lounge hi-fi is a Cyrus 8 DAC QXR amp with another MXN10 streamer...the TV above it is independent as the HDMI Arc is used by a Sonos soundbar. I don't watch my TV (but go to the cinema if I want that experience). I wouldn't want to faff around turning on an amplifier and setting the right input each time I watch TV or a movie so I'm not sold on the idea of amps with HDMI inputs. That said, I'm totally happy with the Rega iO sound with ELAC speakers, it really is full of vibrancy...I've got things just right at quite a low price point so the Brio MK6 will need a glowing review!
