The Lion King DVD - So expensive!!!!

I wanted to buy The Lion King DVD, but they're ridiculously overpriced at £65!! I trawled a bit online to find the reason, & came across something called Moratorium which refers to the practice of suspending the sales of DVD movies or DVD boxed sets after a certain period of time. It forces higher sale prices.

Isn't this unethical? Can this not be challenged in court?

I'm afraid this is something that Disney do with the more popular titles. Suppose as its their product they can do what they like with them.

They tend to re-release every 5 years or so for a limited time.

i've just sold Fantasia on fleabay for silly money, but I know its coming out on BD next year.

Andrew Everard:Disney has long done limited-time releases of its titles. I guess it owns the content and can do with it what it wants...

It's just shooting itself in the foot. It's more profitable to sell 10 DVDs at £10 each, rather than 1 DVD at £65. The sale will go up by more than 10 times with sensible pricing.

But its not Disney thats selling them at the moment because its on their deleted list.

Those you linked to in your OP are private individuals who are selling them. These people buy multiple copies on release then hang onto them until they become scarce.

Hi,

My thoughts exactly!! Had a quick look and there's a few on there starting quite low but region 1.

There is a brand new one at the price quoted above.

Not sure whether to cash in or keep it. It is a good film!

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

Hmmm......good point. Didn't notice that. It's a strange policy from Disney though.

Its so that people dont become 'bored' of them and new generations can see for themselves why theyre loved so much. I kinda agree with it
