Gets a phonecall to go to my grandfathers. His marantz av amp has died and hes bought a denon in its place

Problem being that his virgin box 'flickers'

I went round and quickly realised it was a 'handshake' issue, as it works fine direct to the tv and the way it behaved was obvious

Changed inputs as usual (which has fixed all handshake issues before today)

Changed cables

Changed all settings imaginable (resolutions, different components upscaling, lip sync etc etc etc)

Looked on net for firmware updates (doesnt have any)

Disconnected various devices to see if there were any conflicts elsewhere

Pulled my hair out and swore in frustration

I had to laugh when I figured out how to fix the problem............

I would normally do that anyways. But because it worked fine with the tv I was convinced it was some sort of incompatability issue

Might be an ongoing issue yet. Im waiting to see how it goes over the next few weeks

I'm affraid it's a sign of the times that we no longer expect things to work correctly straight out of the box. Through plenty of bad experiences, we no long trust companies to beta test their new products to make sure things do work. It always seems that getting a new product to market is more important than customer satisfaction. Although in this case it seem following the IT Crowds advice came good. "Have you tried turning it off and on again."

I have to agree Jase

The number of poor hifi components being released seems to be going up every year

Theres no such thing as 'plug and play' these days.

Just about everything needs tweaking to get the best out of it (or in some cases, never works properly no matter whats done)
