We're planning to review the Tesco Technika Blu-ray player - plus include reviews of several more new Blu-ray players, up to and including the new Marantz model - in a special BD supplement to our April issue, out first week in March...

matthewpiano:If you look around you can get the Sony BDP-S350 for around £150.....

Where? I can't find it for less than £169 (actually in stock that is)

Even so, £23 more than a Tesco model?

I've seen it for £159 at Richers and its currently £150 for a limited time at 2 shops (that the company I work for runs) that I can't mention the name of due to forum rules. Also £154 on Amazon last time I looked.

Pay the extra and get the Sony BDP-S350.
I got mine at Xmas and it came with 5 free blu ray discs (Hancock, Mamamia, Batman Begins, Wall-e, and Casino Royale) - not sure if these are still in the offer.

Its not in stock in any of the richer sounds ive tried, and not available off their website. and it's £169 at Amazon, which I was just about to order 🙂 )

I have seen Andrew Everard tell another trader to put their contact information in their signature, you should do the same (then we can all get the great deals you are talking about)

Yep, MP, in this case happy for you to point people in the direction of these bargain Sony Blu-rays. Just the basics, though!

Yes, but that retailer is posting under the name of his company, not using a 'screen name' . But as long as Mr Piano is speaking for his employers, and his employers are happy for him to do so, can't see it being a problem...

On the main v bulletin I use the post counter got stuck at 166,666...

And at that point did it summon the cloven-hoofed dark lord of the underworld?

Well yes, the main mod questioned my sanity. He did release the lock on it and I tipped over 250,000 at Christmas.

OK. Please be clear. When I respond to posts on this forum I am responding in a private capacity as someone who is passionate about quality hi-fi and home cinema gear. The things I write represent my own views and the results of my own experiences only. This is why I don't make it clear EXACTLY where I work. Its not that hard to work out, but I just don't want to be obvious about it on the forum other than making it clear when any bias might come into play. The information would only be of use to local people anyway because we don't operate mail order. It was more a case of pointing out that a budget player such as the Tesco one seems a false economy when you can buy the Sony for between £150 and £170 from a variety of different suppliers including the place where I work.

That's what I assumed, mp. If you were speaking for your employers you'd be more than welcome to identify them in your signature and/or avatar, of course.
