Is this the version with the best pic quality - I've heard that some BD versions of T2 are better than others?

Yep, this is the better one, i recently got this myself having previously owned the other one, it is a good improvement

It's a 50GB disc as opposed to the previous 25GB edition so apparently there's less macroblocking due to a higher bitrate for the film...
