Hi

I’ve just received an email from richer sounds and they have the F4’s at a good price - what I would like to know is will they be a good upgrade to my Mission M32i?

I purchased some Sony SS-F6000 floorstanders but they weren’t up to the job they had good bass but mid wasn’t really there and the treble was harsh but then for the price I should have known better

Anyway if the Tannoy F4’s are a good speaker upgrade I will put the Sony and Missions on ebay

Thank you for any help

I haven't listened to those particular models, but in the past I've owned Tannoy Mercury M3, Mx1 and MX4-M and also Mission M31 and M52.

So my guess is the Mercury F and M30 series provide a comparable performance. What you will get from the F4 is more bass and a bigger soundstage, that's for sure. Maybe also the Mercury F series is a bit cleaner than the M30 (less grain). But the focus and speed that a monitor gives is also a plus. So I guess it all depends on what you are looking for.

I want to keep the sound as it's crisp and easy on the ear but I do require extra bass

If the Tannoy's can produce similar crisp sound while adding bass I will purchase them

I've also found the MS 906i's at a good price too

Which would be best out of the two floorstanders?

Cheers

I think the MS 906is will give you the sound you are looking for. Very crisp and detailed but with better bass extension.

RE the SF6000s, they are dreadful things (and thats coming from someone who sells Sony gear). Sony have made some excellent speakers (the X series ones developed with B&W were awesome) but those aren't one of them. £120 is just insufficient to buy all that cabinet and still make the sound good.

I wouldn't define the Tannoys as crisp, so maybe they are not a right choice.

Thank you for your input

I've owned the MS before and found them to be very good I thought they lacked bass but they were in the wrong position being rear ported - I loved the sound of them

I was just thinking that the Tannoy's may be a step up and they do go lower but if the mid and top end can't keep up then it's back to the MS due to lack of funding

Anyone elso know if the Tannoy's sound as good as the MS906i?

I think the Tannoy's will have better bass due to the larger drivers but I don't know about the mid and top end

Hi Q bass

Have recently purchased a Marantz sr 5023 receiver/cd 5004/Project debut 3 turntable plus a pair of Tannoy mercury V4,s.

I am well satisfied with the overall results, albeit I don't profess to be a Hi- fi nut although I like to listen to clear crisp musical sound with good bass response, this I get through the V4's

Hope this helps
