Tannoy Prestige range

I thought I should start a new thread for this question as its got lost in another thread.

Has anyone tried the Tannoy Prestige range?

I will hopefully be demoing the Tannoy Prestige Stirling in a few weeks time.

What are they like compared to other Tannoy speakers?

What are they like compared to Spendor Classic & Harbeth?

Any observations/opinions compared to any other speaker you feel comparing to?

Not sure what level of Prestige you are looking at, but we do currently have the Mini Prestige in store, on demonstration, these are a cracking little speaker, and well worth an audition, is this something you would be interested in?

I've been reading about the Prestige range to get an idea of what they offer. The Mini Prestige look interesting but are a bit lacking in the bass department. Maybe good for surrounds though! But I'm only planning on upgrading my stereo speakers, keeping my AV separate.

When I first started looking into this range I thought from the pictures that the Stirling was a stand mount speaker. I quickly realised from the dimension that it was a floor stander! At 91db/w/m they should be easy to drive. The range looks really good so there will likely be some psychoacoustics coming into play when I demo them.

I have only heard the Tannoy Precision 6.1 and I think I mentioned them to to you before, they are pretty laid back, I quite enjoyed them, easy listening but over all a bit too easy listening for me, they lacked bite on certain music, even jazz that was with Marantz Pearl lite cd and amp. so with different amp they could be different, with your Quad maybe a bit too easy going.

Probably easier to drive than Spendors and Harbeths as well. Th e6.1s are only £900.

Hi Fenner,

Although this is subjective, the Prestige are actually quite musical in their presentation, the minis inocorporate Tannoy's famous dual concentric drivers in a very small cabinet, so won't be the last word in bass deffinition. Comparatively, Tannoys are generally a very good speaker manufacturer, however, in some cases, careful equipment matching is advised.

Have another question though.

What difference does it make to have an extra 5hz of bass extension?

The Turnberry goes 5hz lower and has 2db more sensitivity than the Stirling.

It is also 100mm taller possibly bringing the tweeter closer to ear level.

Would the Turnberry be worth the extra £500.00 over the Stirling?

Is there more to it that that? Would it be room dependant as the Turnberry is a larger speaker?

I think I may have to forget the Prestige range.

Found out yesterday that hey have updated the range and with it an increase of price.

Stirling from £2999 to £3950, Turnberry from £3499 to £4950.

They are now WAY over budget!

I might still demo them if my local store can get them in for me but after my demoing yesterday I don't think they would be a good idea.
