Sweet Spot on the bed

Hi All,

Well I have noticed of late that the bass sounds consistently better on my system when I am sat on the bed rather than in the chair, which positioned between the speakers. Not only is the bed off to one side, which happens to be the same side as the sub, but it also puts me in a higher position when I am sat up. So I could just listen to music in bed the whole time but It has got me to thinking how I can achieve this improved sound when in the chair.

I have done a search and found this;
Pyle PSI06 Acoustic Sound Proofing Deadening Vibration Isolation Speaker Base
This may improve the sound of the sub and as it is at an angle by default may also fire the sub a bit higher up into the room. Anyone use anything like this for their sub, particularly like to hear from anyone who's sub fires upward due to the position of the platform?

I am limited like most of us to where I can position my speakers and sub so can't really rearrange the whole room around it. Any thoughts on why it should sound better when I am higher

The speakers are on specially made stands BTW and are at the correct height or there abouts ..

p.s sub is forward firing and off to one side firing across room in front of speakers

...

There several factors, one of which is that bass builds up in corners so as you head towards the corner you hear more bass, especially in smaller rooms. Secondly it's very possible your chair is in a dead spot because of modes in your room. When soundwaves bounce around it's the bass which is most likely to get cancelled out through phase differences because it has the longest wavelength and is therefore most susceptible to it. Don't be surprsed if moving your chair backwards or forwards by 6-12" makes a noticeable difference.

Room acoustics can be a funny thing.

For example at Scalford in the large downstairs horn room off the reception area, the front row of seats had too much of an in your face tonal balance. Too bright. The rearmost seats were too bass heavy. The middle row were just right.

Could you try a higher chair? Or putting your chair on breeze blocks?

Could you move your speakers a few inches till the bass snaps into focus at your chair position?

Could you try changing the angle of your speakers and sub?

Different height speaker stands? Putting your sub on something to lift it off the floor?

Could you get a helper to try all these adjustments - carefully - whilst playing music and you sitting in the chair?

Thanks for replies, there are some interesting suggestions here.

Raising / replacing chair could be possible, chair on breeze blocks!! funny idea

Can't really move speakers apart from into the room a bit which will probably make problem worse

Raising the sub was the idea I was thinking of - using the device in the link I posted, it is an isolation platform a bit like the Sub Dude etc but angled upwards so could maybe kill 2 birds with one stone - will cost about £50 so may be worth a go...

p.s Yes was hoping the post title may draw a few people in...., I could have just named it "Upward angled forward firing sub question" ....... or if I wanted hundreds of replies I could have just called it " Cable / wire / interconnect / plug suggestions please?" :)

Do you have a plan or any pictures of the room and I may be able to suggest some adjustments
