If I have a Bose 2.1 set up (a subwoofer and 2 small satellites). Can I use these as part of a surround sound set up? In other words, buy a centre, and two more satellites (do they have to be the same as the ones I already have?). I like the idea of wireless speakers too! What are your suggestions?
What would be a good amplifier for this? Preferably on the small and not expensive side. I need two optical inputs and an input for a sony lcd tv.

For the most part a speaker package sold as a single unit ( ie- with front, surround, center and sub) would be ideal. Otherwise you would have to look at the speaker impedance, where all the speakers would be same ( either 4 ohms or 8 ohms etc. ). Next is the tonal quality when you buy different speakers, this would affect you because sometimes the sound would seem sharper from one side and others a but muted. Onkyo TX SR604 or 605 is a good buy and you would get them at good bargains since the newer model SR606 is out. You did not mention the power output of the bose speakers, as the basic rule is that the output of the speakers should be greater than the receiver output. Both the above models have 3 optical outputs.
