Hi all, I'm currently looking into buying the Marantz CD6003 and PM6003. What are the best speakers to buy to partner this system? I have been reading up on the Monitor Audio Silver RX1, EB Acoustics EB1 and B&W 685 speakers. Will the Marantz amp PM6003 be good enough to drive any of these speakers, if so, which pair is better suited or is there a better choice other than these three?

Rest assured that PM 6003 will drive 685s without any problem. Regarding which speakers to buy, choose those that sound best to your own ears. All three you mentioned are very fine speakers and should complement CD/PM 6003 nicely, but you should audition them (preferably with the same cd/amp combo, which should not be a problem) before parting with cash.
Whichever you choose, you will have one hell of a decent system! Just add some appropriately budgeted cables...

As Mr. Iceman says an audition is a must.

A few suggestions though: Wharfedale Diamonds 10.1, MA RX1, Epos M12s or EBs. The latter comes with a 30 day returns policy, but have a listen to the others before committing...

Marantz works very well with Dali speakers IMO. Try the Dali Lektor 2 or maybe the new Dali Ikon 1 mk2 / Dali Ikon 2 mk2.

Well the first thing I'd do is buy them from Richer Sounds and get some Diamond 10.1s thrown in free. Then you can decide whether they're good enough to start with (they're fabulous) or whether to sell them on and get something else (EB1s would seem a good place to start, though I haven't heard them).

If you're prepared to consider a secondhand purchase, with all the caveats that comes with, then Mission's 751 (formerly £300 a pair on release) would be well worth consideration. I used to have a pair which went with Marantz CDPs of the day and they were stunningly good. Part of Mission's near legendary 75 series, they'd be good to add to your shortlist if you find a pair in good nick.

EDIT: Meant to say, secondhand prices for a pair in excellent shape would be around £100. They'll give most of their contemporaries a run up to around £500 I'd reckon, and cane anything less than £300.

Prior to my Uniti/EB1 combo, I used to have a PM7001/CD6002 set-up with Quad 12L2's. These worked perfectly fine and you can pick them up 2nd hand for around £200.
