I have been running a Napster subscription on my Sonos system for a while now, but wondered if anyone had any views on the merits of either Napster vs Spotify?

I've had both running for a little while.

Spotify sounds better, plays tracks quicker after selection and of course has the mobile app.

Napster has more tracks (Wonderwall for example) than Spotify, has an easier menu system for new releases and can be used through any web browser - but no app. They've also had terrible problems with their Sonos service.

Spotify costs more, but for me is worth the additional money. I would like to see an increase in the SQ on the mobile app though. So I'll be cancelling Napster.

thats interesting, thanks for your response. I have had bad service recently which I know they have acknowledged, but everyone seems to be talking spotify so wondered if it would be a better choice!

I've used both but seem to find Spotify's user interface simpler and more intuitive. You can also set high quality mode on Spotify with some content available at 320kbps. I find the album availability and quality both excellent.

I'm in a similar positon as the OP and was wondering if you get access to more tracks using a spotify paid subscription compared to their free service?

If you dont then it's possible that I could continue using me free Spotify and sign up for a paid Napster susbscription.

I'm under the assumption that Napster doesnt have a free version like Spotify does?

Sorry to hi-jack but thought it might be of interest to the OP also

Spotify Premium subscription gives you hi-res and gets rid of adverts. Same music selection in both free and subscription versions. There's no free version of Napster.

You do get the odd album thats Premium exclusive/released earlier. Also Spotify Free isn't available on Sonos, you need a Premium subscription

On a plus for Napster, they have a really good selection of playlists and some good Napster exclusive sessions by artists. We were at a friends for the weekend for a party and they didn't have a huge selection of music. So I logged in to Napster on their laptop and let people choose whatever they want. It's a real plus for this kind of service.
