Speakers to match CA840 v2 system

Hi,

As well as the above amp (which I like very much) I use a pre-owned denonDCD 1550AR cd player and Epos ES14 speakers.

I love the transparency, detail and power in abundance. At times the bass is not as punchy or as full as I would like and the midband could be a bit fuller too.

Would a change in speakers do the trick for me. Any other recommendations?

thanks - tonky

Monitor Audio RX6

The M/A RX6's are superb but I've demo'd CA gear with M/A speakers before and found it to be all too clinical and forward.

Maybe the B&W CM7's could be worth demo'ing as could the B&W 684's.

Have you demo'd the 840s with the RS6s? My system doesn't sound clinical at all. The RX6s are supposed to sound less bright (I've never found mine bright to be honest) and the 840 amps are just excellent.

Had a listen to the rx8's last week also, and they sounded bright to me, but that was on naim kit.

The 840 amp is very good, but with the MA speakers, im thinking it may be quite bright sounding to some people.

Yes I have but your hearing is different to mine as is everyone elses!

The RS6's and RX6's quite be harsh and forward sounding when partnered with the wrong gear. the CA 800n series stuff is v good but IMO doesnt always gel with the M/A speaker hence why I suggested the B&W gear as they tame the harshness; as they do with Cyrus as well etc...

Tried some PL100's with my cyrus kit, and it sounded like nails down a blackboard.

Everyone of us has seperate requirements, likes and dislikes for hifi, that is why a home demo with your actual kit, is imperative.

Good luck with trying various speakers out.

Yes but Cyrus + Monitor Audio = AARRGGHH

I know what you're saying but IMO there are some systems that just dont go together at all! Shame really...

Yeah I know, lovely speakers the pl100 were, but just didn't go, as I expected.

Its a shame as they were reduced to £1500

Had you had an Arcam A32 integrated along with your Arcam CD192 the M/A PL100's would have made a superb system

Fair enough - it would be boring if we all agreed!

If you like what you have and it seems like it, why not add to it rather than change it completely. I'd try a good subwoofer. It should exactly do what you require if you get the right one.

Thanks everyone for the advice,

I may well try to demo a good subwoofer and see if that gives me what i need.

cheers tonky

The B&W 610 (or 608 if in a smaller listening area) might be up your alley budget wise. Saves you some dough as opposed to getting new speakers. Good luck.
