I have £400 to blow on speakers, I have a Nad 355BEE amp and an old Technics budget CD player that I'll replace in a few months.

I'm auditioning some B&Ws 385 today at Sevenoaks, any other must listen recs?

Listen to everything from acoustic, through alt indie to electronica

If you are lucky, you might find a good offer on the Quad's 21L2.

Fantastic speakers, very warm-sounding, great soundstage and a matches well with the NAD.

Not a lot of reviews out there as they're not very well known, but here is a fairly detailed one: http://www.twochannelaudio.com/Quad21L2speakers.html

Good luck!

+1! great little speaker but if you want big floor stander bass you may want to look elsewhere.

Yup...

B&W 685's
M/A RX1's or M/A RX2's
2nd hand M/A RS5's or RS6's
2nd hand B&W 60s S3's or 603 S3's

There's a lot to choose from

Welcome to the Church of Dali.

Straight to the bottom of the page, for £400 you are not going to get a bigger bang for your money.

They were a thousand pounds, they sound and look it.

They are on the large size and need a large room and a solid floor and your amp should be happy driving a 4 ohm load.

I have no problems with that my Lyngdorf Power chucks out 375 per channel into 4 ohms.

Highly recommended.

I've looked at the 2.8 Dalis a few times now but the 4 ohm put me off buying them, not being that technical, what is the issue with 4 ohm speakers.

.My AV amp drives 6 & 8 ohm,100 watts per channel,it's a Yamaha DSP-AX863SE,should this be ok with 4 ohm speakers.

Your amp will work harder for a given volume, but there should be no issue in driving 4 ohm speakers.

I have successfully driven 4 ohm loads in the past with a Yamaha amp without any concerns, make sure you switch yours (if it has a selector on tha rear of the amp) to 6 ohms

Yes it can be switched to 6 ohm.

Thanks

Bought the Dalis after comparing with the 685s. The 685s had better separation and some aspects of detailing but the Dalis have a more complete, fuller sonic range at low end, a lovely warm bass that has myriad layers to it. They are huge ! but beautifully made and I love the design.

Just running in now, so sure will improve but I'd like to look boosting the treble a little later on with cables etc.
