Sound level with a Sony BD370 blu ray

The sond balance through my Samsung TV is rather odd, the voices are often quiet, whereas any music is extremely loud. When I press the sound button on the menu its shows its in 5.1 mode. Tried switching the SRS (sourround sound "effect") on the TV and it just sonds thin and nasally. The Toshiba XDE500 that I used previously had a much more even sound volume - any suggestions? I cant find anything of any help in the manual.

If you are just using the tv for sound try setting the Bluray player to to down mix the audio to 2 channel stereo.
