I was just about to order a Sony STRDG820 as per a recomendation on here and found play.com had them in stock for £250 inc delivery. I however noticed in the review section that their appears to be a problem with some of the sets that means you won't get HD audio when using a SKY HD box. Apparently Sony are aware of this and upgrading Firmware however I am not sure if this has been sorted as yet because the last thing I want is to but something and then take it back for upgrading.

Can anyone shed any light on this??

many thanks in advance

First of all, no amp in the world will give you HD audio from Sky HD. The issue was that the first lot of the receiver you mention along with the first lot of STR2400es receivers had a problem allowing hdmi connection to work with an alternative audio connection. Sky HD boxes do not give surround sound (Dolby Digital 5.1) through hdmi so you need an optical or (the new boxes) coaxial connection. The first batch of these Sony receivers could not give you the picture from hdmi and the sound from optical/coaxial. I am pretty sure that the ones that Play are selling are the new batch which are ok. It would be worth calling them first to double check.

I think that it should be pointed out that DD5.1 as from SkyHD is not classed as HD Audio.

Whereas DTS-HD, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio are HD Audio, but not currently supported by SkyHD.
