I've just ordered this receiver to go with my panasonic BD60 blu ray player, couple off questions what is the best way to connect the player to this receiver also I have sky HD I am sure I read somewhere that for sky HD you have to connect the optical or coaxial to the receiver for sound and the HDMI for picture the thing is I believe that the sony won't bypass the picture if it is not switched on, so can I just keep my HDMI cable connected to my tv and connect the optical to the receiver for the sound.

Yes you can connect the Sky box direct to the TV via HDMI and have the coaxial/optical for sound going to your amp. I have both mine connected via the amp. This is for ease of use and less cables to my TV. Plus I never watch TV using the inbuilt speakers.

Thanks for that I don't listen to anything through my tv speakers either but my wife does and likes to keep things simple.
