Hello.

I was quite excited when unpacking my new system and found out that any analogue video signal will not be output to the HDMI port which for me sort of defeats the object. Am I doing something wrong?

Another huge issue is the fact that no HDMI source audio will be passed through to the the amplifier and still needs source audio input....Wasn't that the point of HDMI to carry all signals and get rid of the tangle of wires?

Very dissappointed at this point, unless someone can shed some light...

The 1200 only switches HDMI,as you say a pass through. It's an older model so there isn't any upscalling either. I've had mine for 2 years and recently upgraded mostly for these reasons but also for HD audio decoding.
Sony has brought out some newer receivers this year that do what you require, the 1200 is still a nice receiver. Have a look at these.

It was one of the first hdmi receivers on the market and it generated quite a buzz. That quickly died down when owners and potential buyers realised it was just a basic ES amp with a hdmi switch. Unfortunately even to this day, we have various hdmi specs on amps, some switch (passthrough), some can handle LPCM and obviously on the latest amps they will decode and process LPCM and the latest HD formats.

As Del said above, it's still a nice receiver.

Similar problem here, have just sold mine and got the Yamaha 763.

I could not get any sound out of the front pre outs with an HDMI input. Trying to explain this to the wife that I needed a new amp just after I'd bought a new TV and blue ray player got me in the dog house. She still thinks I pulled a fast one.
