I am considering buying a blue ray disc player but the kids are wanting a Sony PS3 so is the Sony a decent blue ray player or is it better as a games console. I have a Sony 40" tv which is 1080p and what is the best way to connect it to the tv if i decide to buy one.

It's a decent BD player, although the dedicated ones are now cheaper and better.

However , the kids'll love the games and the wireless hub functionality is superb. You can access all the stored material from your pc and play it on your AV system.

Yes the PS3 is a decent, actually its a great BluRay player, and upscaler, yes there are better players but for the exact reason you specified-gaming also you (or the kids) wont be disappointed by the PS3

Its also been updated with regular firmware keeping this one of the most update players on the market.............

If you dont have a AV Receiver its a HDMI 1.3 cable from PS3 into your Sony TV..............yep its that easy

I agree, the PS3 is an excellent blu-ray player with very solid DVD upscaling. It's the fastest player around with load times for blu-ray discs, and if you're interested in such things as BD-Live, the wireless capability of the PS3 is useful if like me (and many others) you don't want a 10m ethernet cable running from your router to the player.
